My apologies for the delay in getting this posting out… It’s taken me this long to recover from the Mountain Dew and Whiskeys they were pushing at the after party.
Last week was the NYC premiere of Downtown to Deathbowl - The Evolution of Skateboarding in New York City. This new documentary film produced by Coan “Buddy” Nichols and Rick Charnoski attempts to do for NYC what Dogtown did Southern California and the Z-Boy team. Narrated by Chloe Sevigny, the film covers the rise of skateboarding in NYC from the late 70’s and the original Zoo York artist crew, through the SHUT skateboard days of the late 80s, onto the rebirth of Zoo York and today’s skaters. In this film it’s the city that is the star though… Rather than telling the story of a select group of skaters, DT2DB focuses on the city and how its skate culture has evolved over the past 30 years, taking what the city offered and corrupting it to the sport. Highlights included archival footage and interviews with NY’s pioneering skaters including: Jeremy Henderson, Mark Gonzales, Harold Hunter, Mike Vallely, Andy Kessler, Lance Mountain and others.
Immediately following the premiere everyone was bussed over to another piece of New York history, The Tunnel nightclub for the after party. Mountain dew got the party going with the open bar and DJ Paul Sevigny kept it going spinning everything from the MC5 to Biggie. But the highlight of the night was the Dew mini ramp. Old school and new, rock and rap mixed it up on the ramp as a full on jam session ensued. It was definitely a night to celebrate skating and NYC. ”Trouble” Andrew even made it out to take in the scene and lay down a few turn on the ramp.

The South America Snow Sessions family is excited to welcome Ashley Barker down to the southern Hemisphere as our staff photographer.
Ashley’s work has ended up all over the world this past year. From a cover of snowboarder to many sled missions with SASS coach Andrew Burns to just returning from an Oakley trip to Japan, it has been a sick year for Ashley Barker and she isn’t ready for winter o end.
This year at SASS Ashley will capture all of the action from first descents with Skylar Holgate, Chris Coulter to lapping the park with the MGT girls or MFM and his crew.
The Sass Lodge is nearing capacity for the upcoming 2008 winter season. 3 of the 5 sessions are full with a waiting list.
There are a limited number of spaces remaining

Penfield, the Massachusetts brand of outerwear, will debut a collection for women alongside an expanded range of offerings, new patterns and fabrications for men for Fall 2008. Expect a wider variety of accessories like bags, gloves, hats, and underwear plus the return of classic Penfield styles that have been revived and updated from their 1970’s collections.
New this season, Penfield continues its ongoing collaboration with the masters of camouflage, London-based Maharishi. Hardy Blechman has created a new and exclusive DPM camouflage print for Penfield called “Pendazzle,” which was inspired by the naval drizzle pattern used on American and British battleships and U-boats during WWII.
Shaun White has joined the likes of Isaac Mizrah and David Bowie, launching his new line of clothing and accesorries for Target last night at Milk Studios in NYC.
This is an interesting move for Mr. White… Not that I have anything against Target, truth be told it’s actually my favorite go to of the “big box” options. I’ll be curious to see how this line is embraced by the snowboard community and the general buying public at large.
