October Storm Brings Early Snow to the East

October 28, 2008 12PM – It is currently snowing outside my office window!  Forecasts are calling for possible accumulations of 1-2″ in Northwestern NJ and Eastern PA through this evening.  Hunter Mountain is already calling 2″ on the deck as of 10AM this morning and NOAA is forecasting 6-10″ in total accumulations for the Catskill resort (acuweather is being a little more conservative).

Now this isn’t the earliest that we have ever received snow in this area, and it won’t be the earliest top to bottom opening on record for any local resorts (my personal best was October 26th).  I do look at this as a sign of positive things to come though.  Mount Snow has already thrown their hat in the 08/09 season with the opening of the Launch Pad mini-park.  Killington is posting on their site that opening day is scheduled for November 14th.  It won’t be long until winter and snowboard season is once again upon us.  Start waxing!
