Burton NoFish

From the “Latest Gimmick” department comes this WTF? from Burton… I’m sure all the kids will be rushing the stores for this one – HR

noboard

Burlington, VT (February 4, 2008) – Burton and Noboard™ are proud to present the NoFish. Say yes to the no: it’s not a snowboard, it’s a Noboard. Based off a hybrid Burton Fish shape, the NEW NoFish is a board that combines speed, control and float with the freedom to move your feet, similar to the sensation of riding a skateboard or surfboard.

The original Burton Fish, co-created eight years ago by Terje Haakonsen and Burton Testing Supervisor John “JG” Gerndt, allowed for a smaller board to be ridden in deep powder due to its unique shape. The NoFish takes that concept one step further by replacing the traditional snowboard bindings with an engineered rubber composite pad that sits 3mm into the recessed topsheet. The board is a softer-flexing Fish hybrid that combines some elements of the Burton Fish, Malolo and Piranha shapes into one. The rope, a nylon bungee cord used to pull the board closer to the feet for control, can also be dropped for surf style riding.

Noboard founder Cholo Burns had this to say, “Noboarding is a refreshing, new, challenging and rewarding way to experience the mountains. It is a progression in the boardsports world, a new twist on an old idea, only possible with new technologies that snowboarding and Burton have brought forward in the last twenty years.”

  1. you fucking kook, gimmick? I would love to see you ride a mountain without bindings

  2. Touched a nerve huh? If you want to surf, move to the beach. Good luck with that one… as I said, I’m sure the kids will be beating your door down. Is this the kind of customer service your customers can expect? Nice.

  3. HR is a kook I met him one time, he goes both ways man, i’m not talkin bout switch jibs either man, rep rep soda

  4. Powder boards are niche in an already expensive sports category. NoBoard might be onto something but instead of trying to sway the pow hound elite (far from the bread and butter of the snow industry) they could apply their noboard technology to Burtons LTR program.

The ability to strap in anywhere w/o bindings and boots on terrain friendly boards could open up snowboarding to a whole new population of riders.

Hopefully my opinion doesn’t make me a fucking kook.

  5. 2 years from now – noboarder who?

  6. Hey Guys, open your eyes just for a minute. dont think big lines are being riden, or big jumps. you will see. leave the binders to the park. other than that you dont need them.

  7. Thanks Cholo. Maybe if you guys had some video I could share, it would help us understand what you all are trying to offer.

  8. noboards are fucking rad. Maybe as an East-coaster, it probably wouldn’t be a big deal to you.

But if you live in an area where you can access pow easily, it is magic. Seriously, the first time i tried it it was like simultaneously standing up on your toboggan when you were 6 and shredding your first pow run ever, rolled into one.

    i am hooked.

As for being an expensive pow toy, its actually quite the opposite (unless you actually go for Burton’s custom set-up).

You don’t even have to buy a nopad, you can just get a bunch of spikey stomp pads and bolt on a rope from your widest stance inserts on an old board.

Instant noboard for under $100, not to mention that you don’t need snowboard-specific boots to do it either.

My own noboard is an old Todd Richards that i bought used for $20, with a nopad (about $170 Can).

Bindings are OK if you ride hardpack, but if i have the choice, its off with the training wheels.

  9. Hr, please dont get us confused with the first comment written by”noboarder” he obviously isnt one.
i can send you a mag/dvd of what were about if you leave me your address.
it is a fun sport thats for sure. you just need to try it.
the late great GT always said that in 5 years people with binders in the backcountry would be laughed at. im not sure if that will happen , but he wasnt wrong about alot of things. will be an interesting ride anyways.

  10. im a bit confused, is noboarder calling HR a kook because he doesnt beleive in noboarding or noboarder himslef doesnt believe in it? these posts are hilarious, never really know what someone is trying to say.
anyways its a good time in powder, nothing more nothing less.

  11. […] This is one of those.  I caught some heat last winter questioning the legitimacy of the NoBoard.  I stood corrected.  I think I can safely say that this one is for “Kooks” only […]
